I’m no graphic designer by any means, let me preface that. But as I am trying to create and understand what materials I’d like to have for my upcoming book launch, I realized the sheer importance of developing print materials to spread the word on my book.
Sure, spending hours on creating materials related to your book sounds daunting but how else are potential readers supposed to understand what you’re selling?
Reading a book is an experience, readers get to dive into the world you’ve created and develop a relationship with your characters. Because of that, a lot of readers enjoy accompanying materials to the book, such as:
- Book art of your characters
- Bookmarks
- Stickers
- Postcards
- Flyers
- Business cards
Marketing goes beyond having a website or social media presence, sometimes all you need is the basics. Furthermore, for events like signings or conferences, it is important to have additional materials like posters, banners, and other table signage to draw readers in.
If you aren’t the artsy, graphic designer type, you can outsource this step if you like, but it is an investment to do so. The amount of print materials you could have is endless, but it is crucial to help promote your book and entice readers to pick it up amongst the other options they could have. I am a sucker for a good sticker or bookmark, and I’m sure your readers are too.
