Alright, you probably know what’s happening here — informal review of a Substack author’s book. Check out the other authors books too, at the link, and send in your own.
Jaxyl Warrior Princess, written by Author Ruth C Mitchell, is a unique blend of genres, beginning in fantasy and expanding into scifi. Warrior Princess spans a vast time, following a young woman and ending following the grown daughter of the original young woman. I enjoyed it and found the characters interesting and the concept intriguing. Watching a medievil society develop under the tutelege of an alien from a planet resembling something like modern times (instead of crazy futuristic) was a fascinating idea, one I wish I could’ve seen played out a tad more. The way mundane technologies (mundane to us) are explored through inexperienced eyes was a favorite part of mine. The abilities and powers of the warrior princess were another area that I think held a lot of potential, had they been explored more. Perhaps if they were pivitol to defeating the book’s villain, that would’ve allowed for more exploration of her abilities and unified some other details, I think. I enjoyed the story and I can’t recall reading one quite like it before. A sort of space opera but in fantasy. Thank you for sharing this book and well done at having written a novel, no easy feat.
I hope I am never discouraging to a writer in these informal reviews, and I also want to extend an offer to anyone whose book I have read; if you wish for more in-depth feedback, feel free to message me! Alright now, take care.
